General Safety Policies for Children at City Golf Courses - Kansas City, MO Parks and Recreation

Children between the ages of 5 to 8 are permitted as spectators with the supervision of a non-playing adult.  Golf car rental is mandatory and the child and non- playing adult should stay in the golf car at all times.

Children under the age of 5, because of safety issues, are not allowed on the golf course.

Minimum age to play other golf courses is 8, except the par 3 at Heart of America where the minimum age is 7 with adult supervision.

Children between the ages of 4 and 7 can play the junior facility with parental supervision.

Children of any age may hit driving range golf balls; children under 8 should have adult supervision because of safety concerns.

Heart of America Golf Course, twenty-five minutes from Hodge, located in Swope Park,  has a par-3 golf course that is a great learning environment for young juniors and new players.  Typically, you can take more time to play and learn the game. Call 816-513-8940, hoagolfcourse.com

Sunset Rates

We have a sunset rate that starts later in the day when your tee time doesn’t allow for 18-holes. These rates decrease slightly the later in the day you play & vary throughout the year based on the amount of daylight left in the day.  It isn’t a play until-dark rate but a twilight rate which is usually 15 - 20 minutes before it gets dark. For more information, call or stop by the Golf Shop.

Player Development Specials

Parent Junior Special

Available Monday - Sunday, start time varies by month:

  • January - April after 5 pm
  • May after 5:30 pm
  • June - August after 6 pm

$20 for the parent and $20 for Juniors ages 8 to 17. Includes Golf Car.

Children between the ages of 5 to 8 are permitted as spectators with the supervision of a non-playing adult.  Golf car rental is mandatory and the child and non-playing adult should stay in the golf car at all times.  Because of safety issues, children under the age of 5 are not allowed on the golf course.

These are slower times on the golf course, creating a better learning environment. This is the best time to play if you have younger kids, ages 10 and under. These starting times and rates are subject to change based on twilight hours.

Youth on Course

Our Youth on Course partnership is no longer active.

Spectator Rider Fee

A Spectator rider fee is $16 for 18-holes /  $10 for 9-holes.

Riders may putt or chip while riding along with your group but are not permitted to play. This is a great way to introduce a friend, family member, or loved one to golf.

Rules & regulations

Food & Beverage

No coolers or outside Food & Beverage are allowed to be brought on the course. Please check with the Golf Shop staff for exceptions.

Players may purchase food & beverages from the snack bar/restaurant operations.

Junior Golfers

Accomplished Juniors ages 13 to 18 may play on the weekend mornings if they can keep a normal pace. All other Juniors and/or slower-paced players, (beginners), should consider playing later in the day after 12 pm, or better yet later in the evening when the golf course isn’t so busy and provides a good environment for learning the game.

Golf Cars

You are responsible for any and all damages caused to yourself, the golf course/facility, or any equipment including golf cars when operating a golf car at Hodge Park Golf Course.

Dress Code

Please wear appropriate golf attire. No cutoffs, sleeveless shirts (men only) or beachwear are allowed. T-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes are acceptable.

Pace of Play

All players are expected to keep a four hour pace for 18-holes, or 2 hour pace for nine holes. Fivesomes are not permitted. Single players have no privileges to play through and our expected to pair up, twosomes, threesomes and foursomes are allowed to play through.

We have tees in the fairway, (short tees), which helps new players, juniors, or older seniors, improve their pace of play and enjoyment of the game. Typically the fastest pace is on weekend mornings.

Etiquette

Should any players have an issue with slow play, reckless behavior, etc., we would appreciate it if you could call the Golf Shop so we can send a player assistant out to resolve the issue. Please don’t try to resolve the issue yourself! Our goal is for all of our Patrons to enjoy their day at Hodge Park Golf Course, and leave with a smile!

Contact our Head Golf Professional Tim Underwood,
and he will send you a free email on basic rules, golf terms, etiquette, and everything you need to know to get started at golf.  You may even surprise some of the veterans with your new golf speak!
